It's as if the title to this stream-of-consciousness photobook, Landmasses and Railways, came to the author in a dream, and everything else about it followed those improbably curving train tracks. Everything is a mystery in this novel-length nearly wordless artist's book — and there is probably no unraveling the mystery except to experience it with pleasure. Matte paper, an incongruous sequence of black-and-white images that somehow seem like perfectly placed notes in a pleasingly discordant silent symphony.

Fleuret's earlier book, The Risk of an Early Spring, is another enigmatic masterpiece in itself.
